What is Second Degree?
Second Degree is the result of me having to quickly organise a trip to the theatre to get me out of trouble. The small group of friends has become a large group of enemies and is now London’s most exclusive theatre and interesting things club with over 400 members, more than 300 of whom have joined via personal recommendation.
Who are you?
I am Second Degree and that is all you need to know. If you must know more you can join and eventually find out.
Why should I join?
You don’t have to but, if you like or would like to go to the theatre then it is probably of interest to you.
How much will it cost?
Nothing.
There are however some rules that will need to followed and you will find yourself removed from the list if:
- You don’t buy any tickets for a long time, usually around 1 year as I am not a free information service.
- You engage in improper conduct at the theatre. No black tie required but please be civilised and show some respect for other patrons and actors - i.e. no talking during the performances and, for the love of Satan and all that is evil, please put away your mobile phones. I don't care who you are, it is just plain rude and I am having none of that from Second Degree;
- You try to "sell on" their ticket/s - through sites like ebay / viagogo etc.
The last one is very important to me as I have built an excellent set of relationships with various theatre companies and agents and their trust is important to me.
How does it work?
I will make you aware of shows that I have booked via WhatsApp/email.
WhatsApp – there are two options here: the Group or the Broadcast.
- Group – like your standard WhatsApp group with a lot of chat and some banter. Your contact details will be visible to other members and please note that it can get noisy.
- Broadcast – a direct message to you – less noise and no banter.
- Emails - poor taste and full of errors both grammatical and factual. If you did not grow up on a diet of "Carry On" films and the Muppets you will be offended.
If you like what you see about the show and the date works then book tickets directly on the website.
Please note that there can be no exchanges or refunds on tickets - all sales are final.
Please do not purchase tickets if you are unsure if you are able to make it, it sounds obvious doesn’t it? But, I still have to say this.
How do I get the tickets in my hand?
Tickets will be sent to you via email or WhatsApp, usually the day before the performance but more often than not a lot sooner. They will also be available on your profile on the website for you to download. If we are going old school then there the options of post or hand-to-hand.
Post - usually you will get the tickets two weeks to 10 day before the show. Handing them over will be me at the theatre looking stressed and twotting my younger brother while my Mum calms us both down with Maltesers.
Are the tickets any good?
No.
FFS I get asked this a lot but I should not be angry or upset as there are a number of shoddy sites that will charge you full price for a seat at the back of the stalls.
I will not sell a ticket that I would not be happy sitting in and paying for myself and yes, I pay for my tickets.
All the tickets for a show have sold out and it says waiting list only - what does that mean?
I will only get tickets that I would be happy to personally pay for, so there will be a number of times when we will be sold out.
The waiting list has been created for two reasons
- So that I can gauge how much demand there is a for a show and try and get some more or an alternative dates and
- to act as a sub mailing list for those who are unable to use tickets that they have purchased through the site.
Nuts I can not use my tickets now - what shall I do!
The site will shortly have the ability for you to submit your tickets for resale. This how the process will work:
- If you have tickets that you can no longer use AND the show is sold out AND there are more than 10 days till the show – you can put your tickets up for sale on the website.
- If you do so then
- The tickets are now locked for up to 5 days - you can not do anything with them
- The waiting list will get an email / alert that tickets have come up
- Anyone on Second Degree will be able to buy them
What does the locking of tickets mean?
Once you have put the tickets up for sale they cannot be taken down again for up to 5 days. At the end of that period they are either sold, if not tehy are returned to you and are your responsibility.
NUTS!! I just put my tickets up for sale and now someone wants them but they are locked - what shall I do?
Introduce them to Second Degree and they will be able to buy them.
Who is on the list?
People. If you must know more than it is those that love the theatre and who, like most professionals, don't know about what the next must-see show is until it is in the press and it is sold out.
There are some people of note, one of whom is my Mum. She is great and brings a snack for me each time she comes along, she also stops me from fighting with my brother – that, though, makes her less great, as he does deserve a slap.
Very few people have voluntarily left Second Degree. The main reasons why some have are:
- Having a baby - apparently this means you cannot go to the theatre;
- Leaving the country - apparently this means you cannot go to the theatre;
- Being a tight arse - apparently this means you cannot go to the theatre;
- Being attracted to me - completely understandable as you are distracted from what is showing but not available - the Mrs does (not) want to share.
You can always unsubscribe. No-one is part of Second Degree against their will, apart from Mrs Second Degree and my Mum.
How can I introduce my friends on to the list?
If you think they would like to join and are people that enjoy the theatre, then by all means feel free to do so, I just ask that you at least attend two shows with Second Degree so that you can make an informed decision and recommendation.
